STYLE & DECOR

The first place to start is by choosing a specific style of decor. Sometimes this may be dificult because your space may not currently have a specific decor style. However, you can start by pulling a few pieces of decor from your living room that you really love. Then you can review our styles & d?cor to help guide you as to the type of decor you want to use for your living room. The type of style you choose is the foundation for your design of the room. All decorating decisions from this point will reflect your style.

COLOR PALETTE

Now that you have a specific style of decor in mind it is time to select a color palette that will compliment that style. It is best to pick about five or six different colors within that style's color palette. This gives you a guide to the colors that you will have in the room. These colors should be used in all aspects of the room: paint, flooring, trim, doors, furniture, area rugs, lamps and other accessories.

LAYOUT/FLOOR PLAN

In a living room, whether your space is big or small, you always have the ability to utilize the space how you see fit. It is important to take time reviewing your space so you can truly get a feel for the flow of the space. This is a great time for you to analyze how much space you need to freely move around the room or for your children?s toys or for your furniture. Often people find that they could remove one or two pieces of furniture for more floor space or that they need an additional furniture piece as storage. Whatever the case is for you, just be sure to plan how you will use the space and what you will need in moving forward.

FURNITURE PLACEMENT

Once you have a plan for how you will utilize your space it is time to start placing your furniture. Don?t worry if your plan doesn?t work out exactly how you thought it would. If you hit a road block with your furniture placement move it around until you can find something that will work. If you cannot get the furniture to work for the space, it may be an indicator that you need a different size piece. This is also a great opportunity for creativity. You may even want to take the time to research different furniture pieces or DIY projects that might work for your specific situation.
