rustic cnadle in primitive decor

Recently we called up 3 stores in Ohio to see what was selling for them. Here is what they said:

Tammy Moorman – Rustiques - Ohio

“Words” on anything sells. It has been strong for 5 years. Anything inspirational with words on it. But I am tired of ordering it. Vintage is doing well for us. Pale colors, lighter creams. Light creams and beiges.

Homespice Products that sell for you:
  • Trio rugs are doing very well, specially the Trio Charm, even though that’s not a very primitive look.
  • I am still selling a lot of blacks, such as Salem or Kilimanjaro. The Harvest still sells really well.
  • I am bringing in the Ultra Durable Rugs over in my new store.

Jennifer Troyer – Country Gatherings – Ohio

LED glow candles

People are looking for a lot of wooden pieces, old bowls, trenchers. (That’s where your penny rugs go).Lanterns are huge, old looking lanterns.A lot of mirrors that look like “old mirrors”. Old looking wooden signs. Candles are always huge and ALL of the flicker flame stuff, they are really hard to find in the grungy primitive look. (That’s where your penny runners fit in, I’ll put your runner under a lantern and it just sells.)

Homespice Products that sell for you: The Penny stuff you guys are doing are very popular and all the hooked things. A lot of darker colors – blacks, reds, tans, mustards.

Sandy Hatcher - Enchanted Forest - Ohio

Primitive décor : A lot of the dishtowels with the words and the tobacco curtain. Family Heirloom Weavers bedspreads. The colors are still the country red, the blacks, the beiges, (taupe beiges). Most of the knick knack stuff have sayings on them. Burlap is big. And stuff that has burlap accent on them. Burlap pointsettas, burlap ribbons. A little but of cute-sy country still sells.

Homespice Products that sell for you:
  • Love the new ultra durable rug, love the new rugs and I am selling more ultra durable rugs than I the jute. I’ve got one (Ultra-Durable) that’s been down for more than a year, it’s had coffee poured on it every day, and it’s not been cleaned yet. I do still sell the jute rugs, but if people have the money they will go for the ultra durable.
  • My favorite Ultra Durable colors are – Black Forest and Black Mist.

My primitive trends are very different from the Ohio world. We are a little slow here in the Northwoods, so to speak.
My biggest sellers are my homespun fabrics and any handmade items I can get my hands on. Lighting remains hot; our wire & mason jar pendants along with the battery tapers and garlands continue to fly out the door. Our small handmade furniture items, anything mason jar, signs, foliage, treenware, along with our Olde Century Paints and 1803 Soy Candles and Melts pretty much sum up my bestsellers. Blacks, browns, and dark reds remain our best selling colors, although I do see a "slight" trend moving in the blue/turquoise direction (but I'm not holding my breath!).

My bestselling Home Spice Products are:

The Jute line of small rugs and accessories. People love the price point so they can buy more then one color and change with the seasons. Our best selling colors are: Kilimanjaro, Harvest, Kingston, and the discontinued Cross Roads and Bunker Hill. We also sell quite a few Ultra-Durable Rugs, using one at our front door. I also do" stain demos" whenever I get the chance. It usually helps seal the sale! I would say Driftwood and Black Mist are our two best sellers. The hooked wool pillows have sold well for us, anything except flowers.

Hi Junior!
First, I would like to thank you, for quality products that I am proud to sell in my shop! You have done a wonderful job of meeting our needs, and asking us for advice, which is invaluable to us. So many companies don't want imput from us or the customer, and I respect that in you!
We have been purchasing rugs from you, for quite some time and our customers love the jute, ultra durable rugs, the hooked pillows, runners, and the tabletop accessories. Browns, black, tans, reds and mustard are still very strong colors. The customers are asking for more rag rugs. Just a thought... The market seems to be missing this need, so I thought I would mention it. Again, in very natural tones, brown, tan, black, mustard, burgundy, too.
Thanks again, for a job well done!!
