Primitive Trends In Pennsylvania
PrintPrimitive Trends In Pennsylvania
Recently we called up 3 stores in Pennsylvania to see what was selling for them. Here is what
they told us:

Missy Hurst – The Old Candle Barn
– Intercourse, PA
Browns, black and cranberry are colors in demand right now. These colors are best sellers in striped and checked placemats and curtains. Whites & creams from farmhouse décor are moving into primitive decor. And I think grey is another growing trend.
Homespice products that sell for us:
- Surprisingly, the Ultra Durable Slims rugs have sold very well for us.
- We display the Ultra Slims rugs flat in rug displays we made out of crates. We carry the multi-color patterns in these.
- We carry the Homespice braided jute rugs and the Mustard Seed, Kingston and Coffee patterns sell best for us.
- I like the Penny table runners and table mats, too.

Crystal Jackson – Jake’s trading Post
– Gordonville, PA
Black & tan in any country or primitive decor line is selling well. This trend has been around for some time and I don’t see it changing anytime soon. Black, red & tan plaid in our curtain line is one of our best sellers at the store. So again, black & tan is the trend here.
Homespice products that sell for us:
- Kilimanjaro braided jute rugs sell the best for us, especially the 20x30’ size.
- We display them flat on shelving and keep several of them rolled up and close to the rug display.

Betsy Fairman – Two Sisters
– Mifflintown, PA
We are in a rural area with a mix of customers who like styles ranging from traditional and country to newer styles. The Fixer Upper show on HGTV has been influential in this area and the upscale farmhouse style is popular. So while we aren’t a primitive store, we have to cater to many styles and primitive braided jute rugs do sell very well for us. We see creams & whites as a growing trend, but we still have customers asking for reds and greens.
Homespice products that sell for us
- We carry the jute braided rugs in Salem and Russett (primitive favorites), but also carry the newer jute patterns like Magnolia , Graceland and Cora .
- We have a 4x6’ Cora hanging up and we have smaller size rugs on the floor under it.
- We use the rugs in vignettes and displays around the store, too.
- We like the Texas Star braided jute rugs. They have done well for us.
- We place a lot of special orders for Homespice rugs for our customers and good communication from the Homespice office on availability and delivery has really helped us with these sales.
