BLOT:
Take a clean cloth (paper towels and regular towels work fine) and then press it on the stain. Soak up the red wine spill as much as you can. Don’t rub as it can further push the stain into the fibers of the rug.
ADD SALT:
After blotting the stain, pour a little salt on the stained area. It helps in absorbing the stain and can be removed with a vacuum cleaner when you are prepared to treat it. Baking soda too can absorb a red wine stain.
CLUB SODA:
Apply a little club soda to the stain and then blot. Then apply a mixture of dish soap (well diluted) and warm water to remove any stain that’s still remaining. A few people say that a half and half mixture of glycerin and water works just fine, too.
