3 handy tips to choose the right Area Rug

When decorating your home, you end up spending hours deciding which type of Area Rug you should choose. From Braided Rugs, Farmhouse Rugs, Hooked Wool Rugs, Penny Rugs to Outdoor Rugs and many more, there are plenty of options that can easily overwhelm a buyer. As anyone with an eye for fine details, I wanted a perfect Area Rug for my home.

Initially, I was a bit hesitant as we were not aware of the types of Area Rugs available or the size of Area Rug I should opt for. As I started selecting my Area Rug, these three questions came to mind:

  • What type of a rug do I want?
  • Where will I place it?
  • How will I take care of it?

Here is our research about what you should know before buying an Area Rug:

1.Rug Style

Rug styles are no longer limited to classic European styles or Persian rugs. There are plenty of modern designs and contemporary alternatives available. I was quite amazed at the amount of variety available in the market. Rug styles can be differentiated according to shape, material and crafting technique. The round braided rug I chose from Homespice perfectly uniteded my dining table with the kitchen. The takeaway is to be aware of your options and not settle for the first Area Rug that appeals to you.

2.Color

The color of an Area Rug emanates the vibe you are looking for. The three main factors in color selection are:

Floor color: Choose a contrasting color pattern from your floor.

Foot traffic: For heavy traffic, choose darker rugs which won’t wear out easily, and unlike light colored Area Rug, won’t lose its sheen quickly.

Appeal of the room: To make your furniture or painted walls the focal point, choose a solid colored Area Rug. Or you can simply opt for something bright and patterned to make the rug the focal point of the decor.

With the Christmas around the corner, you can even choose Christmas themed rugs in traditional green and red color patterns. It is popular to change rugs and other accessories with the Seasons. The color of Area Rug you choose is largely dependent upon your decor.

3.Size

The size of an Area Rug should be large enough to accommodate at least the front legs of the furniture. This creates a unified seating area in the living room. A Runner Rug is a great option for smaller spaces like a hallway and for a bedroom. Here also, there are plenty of options to choose from. So, make sure you first understand the decor and what can enhance it with an appropriately sized Area Rug.

Once you sort through the decisions above, next is to find an Area Rug in your budget. I opted for online shopping for the best pricing available. So much so that I also bought a few Area Rugs for the kitchen and living room! At the deals and discounts available online, you will find just the right Area Rug at the best price!
